Ms. AURORA LIVEABOARD
MS Aurora welcomes you to a brand new scuba diving liveaboard safari. Adventure, relaxation, comfort and respect for marine biodiversity all come together in the abundant waters and many islands of Indonesia. Marine biologists, professional divers, underwater photographers and video-operators offer professional guidance as you explore coral reefs flaunting the highest biodiversity in the world.

Construction started on the purpose built Pinisi schooner ‘Aurora’ in December 2007 in a traditional shipyard in South Sulawesi. As a guest aboard this superior live-aboard, you will enjoy the luxury of a traditional boat coupled with the comfort of a modern one. Built using environmentally friendly principles and having the ability to explore remote areas which only a select few – if any – have discovered…

The Pinisi
Aurora is a „Pinisi schooner“, a motorized two-masts sailing schooner built according to the traditional Indonesian design.

The Diving:
Please note that prior to participating in any cruise, we highly recommend that you have at least 50 dives and/or hold an advanced certification. This is for your safety, the safety of your dive buddies and will enable you to appreciate fully, the underwater realm of Indonesia. Divers with less experience can engage in continuous training courses onboard Aurora.

Dive Equipment Rental:
Some complete scuba sets are available for rental, but due to the fact that we have only limited space on board, we kindly ask you to communicate in advance if you need rental gear. Please use the appropriate form in the programmes and prices area for this purpose, indicating your approximate size. It is important for us to have a precise idea what rental equipment is needed, before we start the cruise.

Under downloads you will find the current price list for scuba diving rental.
Our standard tanks are 12 ltr aluminium cylinders, with single stage INT/DIN (no adaptor needed). There is also a limited number of 15 ltr cylinders available. Please indicate your needs in advance on the online registration form, we will do our best to meet your requests.

The immersions
All dives are conducted according to safe diving practices and according to your experience level.

Our guests are always guided by qualified and experienced guides, only in exceptional cases (depending on experience level and environmental conditions) dives in buddy-system without one of our guides are allowed.

The dives are usually done by zodiac (we have 3 comfortable zodiacs available). The boat crew will take care of the diving equipment, you just need to look … after yourself and maybe your personal equipment such as video-cameras, computers. A detailed briefing will explain you all about the individual dive sites, including diving route, currents, and possible biological curiosities.

The courses
Diving courses and programmes are offered by PADI instructors who speak English, Italian, German, Spanish and French. Due to the fact that the instructors are not on board all together, and you wish to enrol in a scuba diving course, please let us know (registration form – download), indicating your preferred language. If you book a course well in advance, we will have time to organize the student materials in your mother tongue (manuals, videos etc.). We will always do our best to satisfy your requests.
Please note: All diving courses will be conducted on a very private basis or in extremely small groups.

You don’t hold a scuba diving certification?

Raja Ampat Islands Located off the northwest tip of Bird’s Head Peninsula on the island of New Guinea, in Indonesia’s West Papua province, Raja Ampat, or the Four Kings, is an archipelago comprising over 1,500 small islands, cays and shoals surrounding the four main islands of Misool, Salawati, Batanta and Waigeo, and the smaller island of Kofiau. It encompasses more than 40,000 km² of land and sea, which also contains Cenderawasih Bay, the largest marine national park in Indonesia. It is a part of the newly named West Papua (province) of Indonesia which was formerly Irian Jaya. The islands are the most northern pieces of land in the Australian continent.

According to Conservation International, marine surveys suggest that the marine life diversity in the Raja Ampat area is the highest recorded on Earth. Diversity is considerably greater than any other area sampled in the Coral Triangle composed of Indonesia, Philippines and Papua New Guinea. The Coral Triangle is the heart of the world’s coral reef biodiversity, making Raja Ampat quite possibly the richest coral reef ecosystems in the world.

The area’s massive coral colonies along with relatively high sea surface temperatures, also suggest that its reefs may be relatively resistant to threats like coral bleaching and coral disease, which now jeopardize the survival of other coral ecosystems around the world. The Raja Ampat islands are remote and relatively undisturbed by humans.

The high marine diversity in Raja Ampat is strongly influenced by its position between the Indian and Pacific Oceans, as coral and fish larvae are more easily shared between the two oceans. Raja Ampat’s coral diversity, resilience, and role as a source for larval dispersal make it a global priority for marine protection.

Waiwo Dive Resort is brand new dive resort in Raja Ampat Islands, Its located on the best part of Waigeo island on Waiwo beach. It has 10 cottages with shower and also has its own DIVE CENTER.

The resort is in a lovely quiet cove with a nice beach. They have left the jungle canopy in place above the huts so it’s nice and cool during the day and AC isn’t needed at night. There were surprisingly few mosquitoes. Utilities are very basic – cold water only and the power only runs from around 5pm to 9am. The huts are very nice, clean and comfortable with typical basic ensuite bathrooms (a western toilet and bin for the paper).

RAJA AMPAT ISLANDS WEST PAPUA
Located off the northwest tip of Bird’s Head Peninsula on the island of New Guinea, in Indonesia’s West Papua province, Raja Ampat, or the Four Kings, is an archipelago comprising over 1,500 small islands, cays and shoals surrounding the four main islands of Misool, Salawati, Batanta and Waigeo, and the smaller island of Kofiau. Raja Ampat Regency is new regency which separated from Sorong Regency at 2004. The name of Raja Ampat comes from local mythology that tells about a woman who finds seven eggs. Four of the seven eggs hatch and become kings that occupy four of Raja Ampat biggest islands whilst the other three become a ghost, a woman, and a stone.

History shows that Raja Ampat was once a part of Tidore Kingdom, an influential kingdom from Maluku. Yet, after Holland invaded Maluku, it was shortly claimed as a part of the kingdom of Holland. The main occupation for people around this area is fishing since the area is dominated by the sea. They live in a small colony of tribes that spreads around the area. Although traditional culture still strongly exists, they are very welcoming to visitors. Their religion is dominantly Christian.

The oceanic natural resource around Raja Ampat makes it significantly potential as a touristic area. Many sources place Raja Ampat as one of their top ten popular places for diving whilst it becomes number one in terms of underwater biodiversity.

1,309 fish species, 537 coral species (a remarkable 96% of all scleractinia recorded from Indonesia are likely to occur in these islands and 75% of all species that exist in the world), and 699 mollusk species, the variety of marine life is staggering. Some areas boast enormous schools of fish and regular sightings of sharks, such as wobbegongs.

Although accessing the islands is not that difficult, it takes some time. It takes six hours flight from Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia to Sorong. Then, taking boat to reach the islands is necessary.

Dive Destination of Seahorse Dive Liveaboard:
RAJA AMPAT
Our dive trips to Raja Ampat can be divided into different parts that we will adapt to the personal taste of the group. They all share the same underwater magic and around them one can see some of the best sites in the world, paradise below and above.

MISOOL
Once you arrive in Misool, you are surrounded by one of the most fascinating landscapes you can imagine. Hundreds of small islands all shaped by time into sculptures that only nature can produce. The topside it’s out of this world but once your head is under the water you start to understand the concept of variety of colours. The soft corals are unbelievable, all kind of colours and at all depths. It is not unusual to be among a dozen of different ones only a metre or two down!!!

In between the islands the currents flow and countless fans have decided to live there and surprise us during every dive, yes!! There are some nudies and lots of pygmies (different species at every possible depth). For sure the amount of tropical colourful fish among those fans and the beautiful colours of the soft corals will stay in our memories for a long time!!

KRI AREA
Close to the Kri resort there is outstanding diving. Probably the corals are less spectacular than in Misool, but that is compensated by the schools of fish like in Sardine reef and Kri corner. These sites are just fabulously filled with fish and pelagic action is always expected. At the west site of Mansuar area mantas can be seen in great numbers.

PENEMU
Dive sites like Melissa’s Garden, and Barracuda Point are not to be missed.
Here we have a change in scenery. The hard corals are more abundant, and although the fish life is as good as it gets, the barracudas and the wobbegong sharks will be our main goals.
In between the island there are great drift dives among gorgonians. We are normally welcomed by a school of friendly bumphead parrot fish and sweetlips.

WAIGEO
For the enthusiastic of macro photography here you will get the best chance of the trip. Pygmies, small crustaceans of all kind, nudies…The night dive under the pier of the pearl farm will be probably the best of the trip. A couple of wobbies sleep there, epaulette sharks come curiously to see us and all the night lovers wake up and expose themselves to our lights.

Of course for some others this place means shopping at the pearl farm!!!!

Raja Ampat is the centre of the area with the biggest variety of underwater life in the whole world. Other options for you to choose from: going north to Kawe (diving crossing the equator…) and Wayag ( the best top site ever seen by our eyes) or spend some time in Batanta. Among the rare picturesque dragonets, spotting mandarin fish, mimic octopus and blue ringed octopus .This is the only real muck dive area.

PULAU PISANG
Pulau Pisang is situated half way between Misool and Fak Fak and offers a great stop on the way. The reefs are healthy, no bleaching and fish life is abundant, turtles, bump heads, napoleon wrasse and the usual schools of fusiliers that attract trevallies are among their residents and mantas have been spotted on several occasions. We still haven’t found a cleaning station, so we are supposing they are migrating without intention of staying permanently… neither are we

TRITON BAY
The highlight of the area, the record breaker (a couple of dozens of new species of fish, and another couple of newly found coral species…and we are just starting…), so far the star of the show is the recently found Epaulette shark, the only known shark which walks on its pectoral fins!

We have over 20 dive sites; the soft corals are as good as in Misool area. The black coral forest never seems to end and the reefs are boiling with life. All kind of colourfull fish move around, new species of wrasses and gobies fight to introduce themselves to the divers. The topography is varied, bommies, some caves and a few hard corals.

In places like Bat Cave and Little Komodo giant groupers are hiding under the rocks. In Little Komodo and 7th Heaven everything can be experienced. If Komodo is a sum up of diving in Indonesia, Little Komodo has it all in only one dive!! Do you want turtles??..Or bump heads?? Or millions of fusiliers?? Wobbegongs? Jacks??… Go for it!!!

But Triton Bay is more than that. There are more reasons to come to this remote area: the landscape is gorgeous, ancient paintings decorating caves and the village of Lobo is a friendly place surrounded by a 1000 metres high cliff…

Not enough?? What about enjoying the resident pod of pilot whales?

Yes, we know you like to take some macro shots and do some muck diving, well, here is the biggest difference with Misool, we can regularly find critters and some dives are just perfect for that: pygmies (denise and bargibanti), nudies, devil scorpion fish, wonder puss, frog fish, leaf fish, ornate ghost pipe fish…

Certainly not to be missed!

SMY. Temukira Dive Liveaboard
A traditional styled live aboard with a price that is easier on your wallet than most, while keeping a safe and comfortable dive vessel. The crew have all helped to build this vessel and now they all work on her. It’s easily noticeable that the crew are all very proud of their vessel. This is actually the best crew on any dive vessel, they are very helpful and always there to help with your needs! The captain on Temukira is by far THE VERY BEST in Indonesia that You have seen.

Being the only traditional styled vessel operating with a rear dive deck that makes diving very easy and efficient as the captain moves this vessel around with ease, always there to pick you up from each dive. Also with the use of a fibreglass tender it is also possible to use this for the dive sites where the boat rests at anchor. All wooden interiors have been designed for practicality and comfort. Charging stations are easily at hand and all rooms have 220V electricity for extra charging space.

With 12 guests and 10 crew the boat could be a little crowded in the salon and dive deck area though enough room to spread out with different decks and plenty of staff on hand to make sure you receive an excellent service. All Temukira’s rooms are air-conditioned and have very large en-suite bathrooms.

Dive Systems
Having a rear dive deck and rear deck entry system it is possible to make many dives from the main vessel, for safety a tender boat is always in the water for pick-ups. If full it would best with 2 tenders though only one is available. It is possible to make dives from the tender boat on occasions, there is side ladder for this purpose. It is usually possible to make 4-5 dives per day including a night dive, depending on the logistics of the itinerary.

Temukira Sailing Liveaboard
If you after a traditional style, unpretentious vessel with plenty of charm while not going too heavy on the wallet, Temukira may be the best option for you. What also makes this vessel specially stand out is the crew. Here we have a crew that I find are the proudest, most self motivated crew I have had the pleasure of working with. The crew certainly make up for the lack of luxuries that other live aboard boats offer. If you are really keen on great food, this may not best boat for you!
